Be kind to yourself

I know there is a lot being said about 'being kind' and I dedicated a blog post to it myself. The thing is, the being kind doesn't just apply to others but it also applies to ourselves.

Like everyone else, I am my own worst critic. I beat myself up for every mistake that I make for everything that I do for every tiny detail. My other issue is I am a perfectionist and so I always want things to be 'perfect' but things are never 'perfect' because 'perfect' doesn't exist. I still beat myself up for everything that I do wrong and everything I forget to do. But I am human like everyone else and we ALL mistakes. Fortunately, I am not in the limelight so these can remain hidden (apart from those who do know!). I am very thankful that I do not have my mistakes highlighted by the media. I have to give credit to celebrities who do have to deal with this, hats off to you.

I also have high expectations and these can't always be met. I am my own worst enemy and I know that. But I am going to apply the 'being kind' to myself as well as I think I have been punishing myself for far too long and it is about time I did some things for me every now and again.

I have already started small by going running and going to the cinema occasionally. I have just booked myself an escape to a wellness retreat for a few days and I am really looking forward to that. I have been living off microwave meals for the last couple of months which aren't that good and I have bought some healthy meals and vegetables to nourish me instead. Next on the list is to de-clutter. Instead of giving up anything for lent I am going to donate 40 things to charity. So when I am back from my few days away I will do a de-clutter and I can't wait. I am sure I will have more than 40 things to donate.

We all need to be kind to ourselves. We only have one body in this life and we are stuck with it so better start being kinder to it.
