Today was the final run for the Great North Run solo challenge. If you remember the challenge, it was to run 40 times between 26th June and 13th September. If you run certain distances as well this determines whether you get a bronze, silver or gold medal or certificate. For bronze, you needed to run over 100 miles, for silver 200 miles and for gold 300 miles.
I had successfully managed to run 39 times prior to today and had already hit the 100 miles mark, so I knew I would get a bronze and to be honest that was all I was aiming for. I had found it quite hard in August because some weeks I was running almost every day and it felt like a chore, there wasn't any enjoyment in it. Well, I always felt better after my runs.
So today was the last day and I ran around 3.5 miles. It was a very hot day and so it wasn't my fastest or anything like that. I am just glad that I did it! It is such a relief to know that I have done it. I didn't think I would at one stage and cursed myself for even getting involved! But now I have done it, I have a huge sense of achievement! I also realised that the last few runs were completed as a 40 year old. The Great North run has been going for 40 years and that's the same age as me which only just came to my head today!!
